Abstract/Contents:"Experiments were conducted in 1993 to evaluate the efficacy of AC 263,222 (CADRE) for bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum L.) growth regulation. Monthly trials were conducted from May through August with singular applications, and a separate trial was conducted using a repeated application in August following a June application. The treatments were CADRE at 0.0125, 0.025 and 0.05 lb/A and an untreated check. The turf was mowed to 6 inches and the treatments were applied in a spray volume of 48 gpa at 25 psi. Turfgrass color, vegetative canopy height, seedhead number, seedhead height, and turfgrass cover were determined at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks after treatment (WAT) for each monthly trial. All treatments were replicated 4 times and the experimental designs were Latin Squares for the singular application trials and a split plot design for the repeated application trial. All treatments caused significant color reduction as compared to the control trial through 4 WAT in each trial. The least dis coloration from CADRE treatment was consistently observed for the 0.0125 lb/A level. All levels of CADRE were effective in suppressing seedhead formation. The 0.05 lb/A level provided 95-100% seedhead suppression throufh 8 WAT in each trial. Lower levels of CADRE adequately suppressed seedhead formation in July and August. All levels of CADRE reduced seedhead height through 8 WAT, and vegetative canopy height 4 WAT for all trials. CADRE at 0.025 lb/A and 0.05 lb/A reduced turfgrass cover through 2 WAT in June, and through 8 WAT in July and August. The repeat application of CADRE extended bahiagrass growth regulation through the remainder of the growing season. For the repeated application, color was significantly reduced through 6 WAT for all CADRE treatments. Seedhead number and height were suppressed virtually 100% through 6 WAT for all CADRE treatments. Vegetative canopy height was reduced through 6 WAT. Bahiagrass cover was reduced for all CADRE treatments at 4 and 6 WAT for the repeated application. CADRE offered limited growth suppression of carpetgrass (Axonopus compressus) and foxtail (Setaria spp.) for 2 WAT in August. The levels of 0.025 and 0.05 lb./A provided limited suppression of purpletop (Tridens flavus), vaseygrass (Paspalum urvillei), dallisgrass (Paspalum dilatatum), Pancium rhizomatum, and smutgrass (Sporobolus poiretii ) through 6 WAT in August. There was no suppression of broomsedges (Andropogon spp.) recorded at anytime. Control of globe sedge (Cyperus globulosus), and cylindric sedge (Cyperus retrorsus), and Cyperus croceus was noted for the CADRE treatments in August."
