Abstract/Contents:"Five insecticide treatments were applied 6 Sep for control of Japanese beetle grubs. The rough consisted of annual bluegrass (50%), Kentucky bluegrass (20%), and perennial ryegrass (30%). Treatment plos were 6 by 9 ft, arranged in a RCB design and replicated 2 times. Liquid formulations were applied by using a compressed air sprayer with four 6504 Tee Jet nozzles mounted on a 6-ft. boom, operating at 25 psi with a 3 gal/1,000 ft2 spray rate. Granular formulations were applied with a hand held shaker. After all treatmnets were completed, the entire area was irrigated for 20 min. At treatment time, the following soil and environmental conditions existed: air temp, 75 degrees F; soil temp 1-inch depth, 64 degrees F; soil temp 2-inch depth, 64 degrees F; soil type, sil loam; soil pH, 7.2; % organic matter, 5.0; soil condition, moist; amount of thatch, 0.25 inches; and partly cloudy skies. Posttreatment counts were made at 4, 7, 14, 21, and 29 day intervals. Four 0.087 ft2 sod samples were randomly taken from each replicate and the total number of Japanese beetle was recorded for each 0.087 ft2. Sod samples were removed by using a 4-inch cup cutter. An average of 5.5 grubs per 0.087 ft1 was recorded 6 Sep before treatment. Posttreatment results indicate that 4 days after treatment all products provided significant control with exception to Oftanol 5G. Seven days after treatment all products provided significant control except Diazinon AG500 and Oftanol 5G. Fourteen days after treatment all products except Oftanol 1.5G provided significant control and by twenty one days posttreatment every product provided significant control. Diazinon AG500 and Proxol 80SP did not provide significant control at 29 DAT. No phytotoxicity was noted."
