| Abstract/Contents: | Variations in total N and various N fractions were determined in a total of 76 clones of tall fescue cv. Manade, S170, Stef and Clarine, a total of 18 clones of tetraploid meadow fescue and meadow fescue cv. Skrzeszowicka and 38 clones of timothy cv. Skrzeszowicka and 6 other populations of timothy. Differences in N fractions in the leaves of different cv. and populations of the same sp. were not significant but differences between clones of the same cv. or population, particularly in the content of low-mol. wt. N compounds, were much larger. It was concluded that single plants exhibiting low NO3-N levels and high N assimilation might be selected from populations grown with intensive N fertilization. |
