Abstract/Contents:When the larval development of Javesella pellucida (F.), J. dubia Kirschb. and J. obscurella (Boh.) on 11 species of grasses was investigated, A(lopecurus) geniculatus appeared to be the most suitable for all 3 species. Oats, L(olium) perenne and Ph(leum) pratense were also relatively suitable, but A(grostis) stolonifera was suitable only for J. dubia. The least suitable grasses were F(estuca) rubra and P(oa) pratensis. When ovipositing females were offered Alopecurus geniculatus, L. perenne, Phleum pratense and Agrostis stolonifera, J. pellucida and J. obscurella both favoured Alopecurus. J. dubia laid as many eggs on Alopecurus as on Agrostis. When females had a choice between 2 grass species, J. pellucida and J. obscurella preferred Alopecurus to both L. perenne and Agrostis stolonifera. J. dubia chose A. stolonifera as often as Alopecurus geniculatus.
