| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicide treatments were evaluated on an experimental green at the Agronomy Research Center, Purdue University. The turf area received conventional golf course care and was maintained at 0.25 in height. Treatments were applied to 3.3 X 6.6 ft plots arranged in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. A single application of each fungicide treatment was applied with a hand held CO2-pressurized sprayer with 11003 LP flat fan nozzles at 22 psi and at a rate of 2 gal/1000 sq ft. The date of fungicide application of each treatment was made on either 30 Jun, 7 Jul or 14 Jul. Cultures of R. solani were grown on sterile white sorghum grain in Erlenmeyer flasks for 14 days. Inoculations were made by placing 5 infensted sorghum grains into the upper thatch layer of each plot with a hand-jab planter. All plots were covered with a plastic tent stretched over wire hoops each evening and uncovered in the morning for four consecutive nights after inoculation. Brown patch data were taken on 29 Jul. Temperatures were below normal and rainfall above normal during Jun and Jul. Disease development was determined by measuring extent of growth of each patch 9 days after inoculation. All but six treatment combinations suppressed brown patch development significantly (P=0.05) below the control. No phytotoxicity was observed." |
