| Abstract/Contents: | "Eight fungicide treatments were evaluated on 'Touchdown' Kentucky bluegrass for control of stem rust. The turf was established Sep 92 at the University of Nebraska John Seaton Anderson Turfgrass Research Facility at Mead, NE. Plot conditions consist of nightly irrigation for a total of 1.5 in water per week and weekly mowing to 2.5 in with clippings being returned. One lb of actual N per 1000 sq ft was applied in May. Dimension was applied in late Apr for preemergence weed control. Fungicide treatments were initiated 30 Jun and repeated at one, two, or three week intervals using a CO2-pressurized (25 psi) backpack sprayer with a flat fan nozzle. The sprayer was calibrated to deliver 5 gal spray solution per 1000 sq ft. Four replications 5 x 5 ft plots were arranged in a randomized complete block design. Precipitation was above normal from Apr through Sep. Temperatures were below normal, with warm days and cool nights creating long dew periods. Rust development was from natural inoculum. Stem rust developed slowly during summer, reaching its peak in early October. All fungicide treatments controlled rust during the evaluation period from late Aug to early Oct. Banner 1.1E, Bar 3421625DF, Daconil 2787 Flowable, Daconil SDG, and ASC 67098X kept stem rust levels below 10%. No phytotoxicity was observed for any of the treatments." |
