Abstract/Contents:"This study was conducted at the Landscape Management Research Center, University Park, PA, on perennial ryegrass maintained under home lawn/golf course fairway management conditions. The experimental area was fertilized on 3 Jun and 1 Jul with 1.0 lb nitrogen (urea 46-0-0) per 1000 sq ft. Individual treatment plots, 3ft x 7 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were applied on 5 Jul with a CO2-powered boom sprayer, using TeeJet 8004 nozzles, at 30 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1000 sq ft. The experimental area was inoculated on 7 Jul with a 4-isolate pool of Pythium aphanidermatum. Following inoculation, the inoculated area was enclosed in a 30 x 50 ft polyethylene greenhouse to minimize radiational cooling at night. The greenhouse was vented during daylight hours, and closed at night. An internal intermittent misting system provided continuous high relative humidity. Percent of individual plot areas blighted was assessed on 16 Jul. Data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance and Duncan's Multiple Range test. Intense disease pressure is provided by the conditions under which this test was conducted. All fungicides evaluated provided excellent suppression of Pythium blight under these conditions. Phytotoxicity was noted on those plots treated with the mixture including the adjuvant, Silwet. The gaps in the disease severity values result from the fact that a number of fungicides being evaluated under confidentiality agreements were included in this trial. Data from these fungicides are not included in the table."
