Abstract/Contents:"Fungicides were evaluated on a zoysiagrass fairway at the Deer Creek Country Club, Kansas City, KA. Fungicides were applied on 28 Sep 92, approximately 4 days after initial large patch symptoms were noted on zoysiagrass. Fungicides were applied with a CO2-powered backpack sprayer equipped with 8004 flat fan nozzles at 20 psi in water equivalent to 4.5 gal/1000 ft2. Plots were irrigated with approximately 1/4 in. of water immediately after fungicide application. Plots were 6 X 5 ft and were replicated four times in a randomized complete block design. Plots were rated 5 May 93 for the percentage of plot area diseased. Large patch symptoms were present in the fall 92, but fall ratings were not taken because of rapid turf dormancy following cold weather in early Oct. Additionally, plots were briefly flooded in late October following heavy rains. Zoysiagrass was very slow to break winter dormancy because of a relatively cool spring, and most of the turfgrass did not resume growth until late April. Patch severity was moderately high in early May 93. All fungicide treatments except Broadway and Eagle significantly reduced disease severity. Some of the spring damage in treated plots may have resulted from infection in early fall 92 before chemicals were applied. Since zoysiagrass does not regenerate new shoots during winter dormancy, the fall-damaged areas would be visible in the spring. Nevertheless, these results indicate that fungicide applications in September help suppress large patch development in late fall and early spring."
