| Abstract/Contents: | "Applying classroom learning to career-related activities is often attempted through class assignments. One method for bridging the gap between classroom principles and real world decision making is through class projects. In our advanced turfgrass management course, a golf course management project was designed to allow students to apply turfgrass principles to real-world situations. Groups of 3 to 4 students per group were assigned one of nine hypothetical golf courses from various geographical regions of the USA. Each group developed a turf management program complete with a detailed budget that would not exceed the monetary limitation given. A written report and a 20-min oral presentation were required upon completion of the project. Students thought the project was highly beneficial in improving their communication skills and in finding pertinent information on their own." |
