| Abstract/Contents: | Tests detecting specific antibodies' reactions to proteins of pathogens were performed on Lolium perenne cut at a height of 4cm. The grass was tested for early stages of Rhizoctonia (Brown Patch) from June 26 to July 25, 1990, with careful notation of weather conditions, specifically temperature and moisture. Fungi mycelium became visible between the 10th and 14th of July, with visible symptoms of brown patch soon following. The tests taken on the 10th showed high amounts of pathogen proteins and antibodies. During this period the humidity was between 90 and 100 per cent, and the temperatures at night above 20 degrees C. However, test readings were not significantly higher than readings taken before any mycelium was detected, and the readings taken during an actual infestation of brown patch were not significantly higher than those from the initial stages of the disease. Although showing significant results, the immunoassay tests proved not specific enough to aid in early detection. |
