Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the current situation of golf in South Africa. With the demise of apartheid and the success of two South Africans at recent major championships (Ernie Els and Simon Hobday at the 1994 U.S. Open and Senior Open championships, respectively), the golf industry is a focus of enormous interest after years of being ignored. Details the construction of new world-class courses and facilities as well as the efforts being made to renovate old courses and provide usable facilities for the general public. Also covers the issue of race and politics in golf as well as golf-related opportunities for the less privileged, the talented youngsters of South Africa, those in the caddie business, and the tourist looking into an experience out of the ordinary. |
