| Abstract/Contents: | "The Florida Solid Water Act of 1988, and similar laws recently enacted in other states, has created the urgent need for development of curriculum materials on alternatives in solid waste management for use in community education programs. Florida extension agents, at their 1990 planning meeting, requested a wide array of differnt types of materials on composting and compost use to help meet this need. A draft curriculum was developed and tested in 1991 and 1992 on classes composed of people who had graduated from the Master Gardener program. Based on evaluations from these tests the curriculum was revised to include 6 separate sections. Each section is designed to take between 2-3 hours and contains a lecture and discussion portion and hand-on workshop session. Extension agents may use all 6 sections, or portions of them, and they can use the curriculum as a stand-alone composting education program or as a component in other training programs, such as the Master Gardener Program." |
