Abstract/Contents:Discusses the demand for skilled personnel in the horticultural industry and the lack of appreciation of appreticeship and other hands-on technical training in Canada by students and their parents. Suggests that horticulture appreticeship programs must become stepping stones for young people who want to enter the horticulture profession and climb the career ladder. Articlulation agreement between technology, technician and apprenticeship programs need to be established. Linking apprenticeship with technical and academic programs will ensure that skilled horticulturists are not only familiar with particular labour operations, but also have the theoretical background to make wise business decisions.
