| Abstract/Contents: | "Survival of Popillia japonica Newman grubs was tested under field conditions. Dolomitic limestone (4,844 kg/ha) or hydrated lime (484 kg/ha in summer) was applied to a series of 9.3-m2 plots. Each plot received lime once. Treatments were made weekly to new plots for 5 weeks beginning 20 April 1982 or weekly for 6 weeks beginning 15 July 1982. About 6 weeks after the last treatment, 0.093 m2 of sod was inspected from each plot and the number of grubs was recorded. In all five tests, none of the lime-treated plots was significantly different from the untreated checks. Single lime applications do not appear to provide any control of Popillia japonica grub populations in Massachusetts soils." |
