Abstract/Contents:Discusses the debate in Florida concerning Nemacur, a highly effective but toxic nematicide. Nemacur has been linked to several fish kills in the state. State regulations for tighter control of Nemacur are being considered by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Bureau of Pesticides. The proposals being considered include: 1. Limiting the number of acres that can be treated with Nemacur; 2. Specifying a specific setback from waterways; 3. Limiting the number of hours Nemacur can be applied; 4. Removing the reference to mole cricket control on the label; and 5. Maintaining an ongoing education and training program to make users aware of the labeling restrictions and precautions needed with the product.
