Abstract/Contents:"Fertilization is often thought of as a "magic pill" when plants have a problem. However, fertilizer use is increasingly becoming scrutinized for groundwater contamination and runoff. The days of randomly applying large amounts of nitrogen for fast results are past. Nitrogen is undoubtedly the most visible of the elements needed for growth. Fertilizing with nitrogen may stimulate a flush of green growth, but it does not address the "root" of plant problems." Discusses the factors that can cause plant decline, the optimum time to fertilize and importance of soil test, 13 elements that plants need to function properly, and materials and methods for fertilizer application.
