| Abstract/Contents: | "Within the framework of an experiment direct sowing was undertaken for the purpose of providing roofs with a green cover. This was done in order to find out to which extent this cost saving method recommends itself as an alternative to the usual plant populations. When sowing by hand a mixture which consisted mainly of grasses resistant to dryness, the result after a growing period was a projective areal coverage of 50 per cent. The species Anthyllis vulneraria proved to be a very disturbing factor." A more competitive grass, Anthyllis vulneraria proves apt to easily dominate the other grasses. It is recommended that it not be used for this reason. "Mixtures which consisted mainly of small shrubs of dry turf were sown in a density of 0,6 g/m2 by using a spraying pistol and wall-paper glue as a carrier. The method which is more clearly explained in the article permits a very exact and uniform distribution of the seed. Judging by the assessment results after one growing period a seed density of 0.15-0.20 g/m2 seems possible, provided the proper care after execution is secured for a period of two years. The additional distribution of Sedum sprouts did not bring in comparison to the seed any obvious improvement. More detailed information of the experiment, including the results obtained, will be provided at a later period." |
