Abstract/Contents:"This is the attempt, to classify intensively managed turf by means of characteristic plant species in a plant sociological order." The advent of the golf course has created the opportunity to place very diverse plant and grass populations close to one another, and much can be gained from knowledge of those grass species most ideally suited to certain climate conditions. The golf roughs, due to their low use and low maintenance, offer the best chance for a diverse grassland population to thrive. Citing soil conditions often found in roughs, pictures and descriptions of the kinds of grasses that can often be found are given. Drylands, wetlands, greenlands are all discussed. Areas of the golf course that are subject to a more intensive maintenance regime due to their increased intensity of use are also discussed. Generally speaking, the greater the intensity of use, the fewer species of grasses suited to the area.
