Abstract/Contents:"Not long ago it was estimated that 700 new golf courses were needed to meet demand in Great Britain. The government's positive support of land diversification also fuelled the boom in golf course construction on farmland. To farmers wanting to diversify into other activities, turning their land into a golf course can seem an attractive proposition. The idea also appeals to developers anxious to cash in on the golfing boom. But how can the suitability of such land for golf be determined?" Presents advice and suggests steps that can be taken to help ensure profitability and long-term success in new golf course development. Topics covered include: influence of topography on the effectiveness of layout, establishment of turf greens and irrigation.
