Abstract/Contents:Profiles the inovative traffic control techniques implemented by Jerry W. Coldiron Jr. and the management team at the Boone Links/ Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Florence, KY. "All of us have seen and experienced the traffic problems associated with successful public operations, especially when left unchecked or unrestricted. What we set out to find was the 'sustainable threshold' of our course and by that I mean the optimum number of rounds that we can comfortably play while still meeting our expenses (including capital and debt reductions), and keeping our mission statement values intact! Looking at historical data, analyzing and understanding our customer base, we began to establish various scenarios based on this data. You can work with your management team to determine philosophies, tee time spacing, wave system, season passes, etc. All trends that directly control the amount of traffic your course receives. You will have developed a solid set of statistics, not just manage by tradition, gut feelings and instincts.
