Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the rationality of low cut turf maintenance. "In my opinion low cut is the antithesis of a sports turf manager." In a survey of turf managers across the U.S. and Canada, no measurable indicators were found that related grass height to playabilty, such as athlete speed, yet there was a preconceived impression by coaches and players that "tall" grass was not desirable. At the same time, again without measurable date, injuries were though to be reduced by "tall' grass. Raises some questions regarding the height of turfgrass, which need to be answered by sports turf professionals and researchers. |
