| Abstract/Contents: | "Like any kind of ornamental plant, wildflowers require work and planning. Assured success with wildflowers starts with a good work plan. A well thought out work plan should not only identify the specific purpose of the planting but also identify and address specific concerns which would include but not be limited to the following: Are you planting to provide aesthetic beauty or to attract birds and butterflies? Do you wish single year color or multi-year color? What wildflower variety should you use? should you use an annual variety or perennial variety or a mixture of both? What bed location will constitute a suitable site for growing wildflowers? What size bed should you use?" Discusses strategies to form a good work plan and the techniques to establish wildflowers according to different purposes and conditions. Topics covered include: choosing a suitable variety or mixture of wildflower seeds, selecting annual varieties or perennial varieties, factors determining what size bed one can plant, implementing a good work plan, including soil preparation, weed control, seeding time, mulching bed and maintenance. |
