Abstract/Contents:"Plan before you plant is the most important step in flower and shrub bed maintenance." Discusses five basic steps in the planning process with suggestions on various types of planting and situations you may encounter. The five steps include: site assessment, defining the type of planting, selecting ornamental species and compatible weed management options, site preparation, and installation and implementation of the plants and the plan. Also discusses the selection criteria of herbicides to obtain maximum weed control and avoid injury to desirable plants.
