| Abstract/Contents: | Three golf course superintendents: Dave Mucciarone, Woodland Golf Club; Jim Perez, East Mountain Country Club; and Scott Reynolds, Charles River Country Club; offer advice on how to safely remove snow from the golf course. Mucciarone uses a tractor and follows two ground rules: there must be an appreciable thickness of ice and when there are four inches or less of snow on the greens and it is near opening day, he only uses a blower. Perez uses a payloader and also makes sure that there is enough ice to handle the strain. When the green is cleared he uses an organic fertilizer to attract heat and melt the ice. Reynolds also uses a payloader and artificial covers. These methods all help to open the courses in a timely fashion and offer as many golf days to their patrons as possible. |
