| Abstract/Contents: | "Even before the introduction of DIN 18035, part 4, -sports grounds and lawns - there had been contemplations and demonstrational experiments were carried out (e.g. turf sports grounds in the grounds of the Olympic Games in Munich) with the objective of improving the wear and tear properties of turf sports grounds by improving the soil physical properties and by mixing the soil with sand. The experience gained from these grounds and 'standard grounds' is depicted. Attention is drawn to the fact the biological necessities have to be taken into consideration as well as the actual requirements when planning the setting up of a sports ground such as use, range of effects, local climate, the condition of the building plot and the follow up measures in the form of care and management. The new standard should not describe means and methods of establishing grounds but should list objectives and requirements instead. Those who plan and set up the grounds should not, primarily, realise 'grounds conforming to the standard' but instead turf grounds in accordance with the location and in line with the type of utilisation [sic] envisioned. The turf sports ground standard should be seen as a general technical directive whose application requires know-how." |
