Abstract/Contents:Describes the controversy as to what constitutes the ideal putting grass. Although fescue is often preferred, it too is subject to intense scrutiny. In order to more accurately ascertain the true qualities of putting greens, Mr. R. F. Arnott constructed a mechanical putter that simulated the putting of a golfer, only without any psychological or physical inhibitions, and without any appreciable deviations in its putting. Although the author deems it too soon to draw any conclusive deductions from tests run thus far, this device allows for a more objective observation of the putting quality of a golf green, and eventually a more accurate, durable putting grass may be employed.
