Abstract/Contents:"Annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.) is susceptible to anthracnose (Colletotrichum graminicola) during periods of high temperatures. Moisture stress is often associated with high temperature stress but information showing the effect of moisture stress on annual bluegrass as a predisposing factor to infection by C. graminicola is lacking. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of moisture stress on annual bluegrass susceptibility to infection by C. graminicola. Greenhouse experiments were conducted to study the effect of pre- and postinoculation water stress of annual bluegrass (Poa annua var. reptans (Hauskins) Timm) on colonization by C. graminicola. Annual bluegrass predisposed to 100%, 62.2%, 27.7% and 5.4% available soil moisture levels before inoculation resulted in increased anthracnose colonization. Plants inoculated preceding the water stress treatments resulted in no difference in C. graminicola colonization."
