Abstract/Contents: | "A field experiment was conducted over a 3-year period to evaluate 'Penncross' creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.) as influenced by iron (Fe) applied with either siduron or ethofumesate plus flurprimidol. The quality of creeping bentgrass was higher (17 to 31%) in 2 of 3 years when Fe was applied at 1.7 kg ha⁻¹ in April with ethofumesate (± -2-ethoxy-2,3-dihydro-3,3-di-methyl 5-benzofuranyl methanesulfonate) plus flurprimidol {^Da- (1-methyl-ethyl)- ^Da-[4-(trifluoromethoxy)-phenyl] -5-pyrimidine-methanol} at 1.7 + 0.8 kg ha⁻¹ when compared to the chemicals applied alone. Improved quality was only observed for 2 to 3 weeks after the Fe treatment. When Fe was applied with repeated ethofumesate plus flurprimidol applications at reduced rates (0.8 + 0.4 kg ha⁻¹) in May turf quality was improved (15 to 24%) in 1 of 3 years compared with ethofumesate plus flurprimidol applied alone. Iron applied with siduron [N-(2-methylcyclohexyl)-N-phenylurea] produced a response similar to ethofumesate plus flurprimidol, but the difference between siduron with and without Fe was not as great. There was no improvement in creeping bentgrass quality when Fe was applied with siduron or ethofumesate plus flurprimidol in June or July." |
