Abstract/Contents:Discusses the importance of the soil texture, and its influences upon various other vital areas of turfgrass maintenance, such as nutrient availability, the rate at which fertilizers and water can be absorbed by the plants etc. The delicate chemical and physical balance found in soil is all too often not fully understood when soil amendments are being applied, resulting in damaged turfgrasses. The attempts to alter the soil pH are frequently misguided as to the extent of their effect upon the disease susceptibility of the turfgrass. The author stresses that insufficient data is available to solve many of these problems, but expresses that sufficient headway has been made to begin a greater, more in depth understanding of soil processes.
