Abstract/Contents: | The author discusses the merits and the disadvantages of soft putting greens. Soft putting greens make play easier and are one of the reasons that tournament scores are lower in the United States than in Britain. However, the author also believes that because of this softness the American golf courses lack the subtlety of the British links. Also it lessens the demand for a strategy and intelligent planning. The author states, "It seems to me that the ideal green would be sufficiently soft to hold only a properly-placed pitch..." |
