Abstract/Contents: | After outlining the history of how the game of golf used to be played in England, the author states that the emphasis of the modern game of golf is on the golf greens, and that an optimal putting surface is that towards which all research should strive. Due to the diversity of soil types found in England, this will be a difficult goal to attain, and tha author asks of patience on the part of the players while careful research will be carried out to ameliorate the problems. |
