Abstract/Contents: | "Knowledge of the biology, pathology, and ecology of plant parasitic nematodes affecting turfgrasses is limited, particularly for cool-season grasses. This review focuses on several aspects of the distribution, identity, behavior, and pathology of turfgrass parasitic nematodes, for both cool-season and warm-season turfgrass species, their interactions with other turfgrass pathogens, and the variety of control strategies available. The extraction procedures used for identifying nematode species and quanitfying soil and plant popultions are of considerable importance to the diagnosis of nematode problems in turfgrasses. These important procedures are discussed in the context of damage thresholds, which are used to guide the implementation of control strategies. Emphasis is also placed on the effective use of nematicides and the factors affecting their efficacy." |
