| Abstract/Contents: | "In seed testing in the purity analysis it is not possible to differentiate between the different Agrostis species by diagnostic characters of the florets. However, according to the International Rules for Seed Testing 1976 it is possible in a special analysis on the verification of species to express a general judgement as to the genuineness of the sample as well as to its homogeneity by means of quantitative morphological characters. For this, first the mean lengths of the florets and the paleas of the sample under test are determined, if necessary additionally also the mean length of the caryopsis and the width of the florets as also the occurrence and frequency of awns and hairs on the lemma. For these characters the positions of the variation ranges are species specific completely or at least preponderantly different for A. canina L., A. gigantea Roth, A. stolonifera L., A. tenuis Sibth., cv. Highland and var. Astoria. Moreover, by means of the frequency distributions of the lengths the homogeneity or intermixture of samples respectively can be analysed." |
