Abstract/Contents:Laboratory and field studies were carried out in Florida to evaluate the toxicity of insecticide baits to Scapteriscus acletus Rehn & Hebard and S. vicinus Scud., which are important pests of turf and pasture grasses. Adult females were confined in plastic containers with moist sand or soil as substrate during the testing. True efficacy of poison baits, as determined by total mortality (surface and subsurface) of mole crickets, was not revealed by surface mortality counts alone. Among the toxicants studied, chlorpyrifos and trichlorfon appeared the most effective for mole-cricket control in the field.
