Abstract/Contents:Discusses the methods used in composting and focuses on the stability of the remaining organic fraction which results from decomposition. Details various means of measuring stability, particularly self-heating. Relates the findings of Sir James Dewar from nearly 100 years ago and applies his use of a super insulated vessel to today's compost testing. Instructs how to conduct a stability test, how to interpret test results, how to apply Dewar methods to a given test, and how to bring a low scoring compost to a suitable stability class.
