Abstract/Contents:For efficient nitrogen utilization and maximum fescue production, two applications of nitrogen per year seemed advisable. The first application of approximately 200 kg/ha should occur in late winter followed by 100 kg/ha in later summer or early fall. Because of growth patterns of tall fescue in the Piedmont, applications at other times are ineffective. Stands of tall fescue can be maintained at these rates. Nutrient loss by runoff does not appear to be significant when applications are made to well established stands on a moderate slope.
