Abstract/Contents: | Evapotranspiration (ET) can assist irrigation managers in southern, central and western Arizona decide how much irrigation water they should apply. AZMET (Arizona Meterological Network) ET estimates provide a convenient means of determining Turf ET. The procedure requires that AZMET values be multiplied by a correction factor known as a crop coefficient (Kc). Kc may then be employed to convert ET to a crop-specific ET (ETA). Tells how to convert ET values into estimates on turfgrass water using the following three-step process: (1 obtain AZMET ET estimates, (2 select Kc value and (3 determine turf ET using the equation: ETA = Kc x ET. Users should be aware that ET will vary with location due to differences in wind and cloudiness. This process permits the irrigation manager to maintain soil moisture at levels that will be suitable for turfgrass performance. |
