Abstract/Contents:Discuses the potential correlation between the reduction in applications of topdressings and the use of mowers with the noticed increase in the thatch levels in the turf. It has been found that the topdressings counteracted the gradual heightening of the putting surface on a green; the reduced application results in the dilemma that a mower set to mow at 1/4 inch height will not be mowing the grass a 1/4 inch height in a little a time as in a few weeks. The methods of mowing and the results desired by mowing need be re-examined in order to remedy this dilemma.
