Abstract/Contents: | "Potassium uptake from waterlogged dune and slack soils by Agrostis stolonifera, Festuca rubra, Carex flacca and C. nigra was investigated in a glasshouse pot experiment. Shoot uptake was not greatly influenced by waterlogging or soil type whereas waterlogging generally had a depressing effect on root potassium content of the grasses. Increasing site wetness favoured shoot potassium uptake by C. flacca in the field but root content was highest at the dune site. Interstitial water content of potassium was higher in partially waterlogged sand than in fully waterlogged sand and in slack sand as opposed to dune sand. Exchangeable potassium was higher in slack soils than in dune soils. It also decreased down the soil profile at all sites corresponding with declining organic matter content." |
