| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses in depth the control of weeds on putting greens. Prevention is stressed. A general description of weeds is given and some various kinds are mentioned. How weeds reach the putting greens is described and some methods to stop the weeds before they reach the green including protection from wind and water-borne weeds, procuring weed-free seed and stolons, and top-dressing with weed free compost are suggested. Methods to eradicate weeds once they have appeared includes hand weeding, sterilization of soil and compost, and chemical control. The influence of fertilizers and soil acidity on weeds is also discussed. As soil acidity gets higher, less weeds are present. |
