Abstract/Contents:Discusses the importance and preparation of compost with organic matter in soil for the growth of grass and soil resiliance. Includes some brief historical references to compost. Details the preparation of compost: building and turning the compost pile, securing the desired texture in compost, making compost in soil beds, the use of green-manure and cover crops on soil that has lost organic matter, other sources of organic matter besides peat and muck, and the process of soil sterilization to prevent weeds.
