Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the induction of the Chinese elm (Ulmus pumila) into the Plains states from China. Grown from seed, the elm provides many benefits including: rapid growth (4 to 5 feet in one season), apparent immunity to insects and disease, requires little water, and it retains its small leaves long after other deciduous trees have dropped theirs. |
