| Abstract/Contents: | On the basis of morphological and cytological studies, 34 varieties were divided into the three recognized types. Sixteen octoploid (2n = 56) varieties belonged to the thick-rhizome type. The remaining 18 varieties were hexaploid (2n = 42). Phenotypically five varieties had fine rhizomes and 13 were without rhizomes. Using ten qualititative characters, seedlings and young plants could be classified into the three types and each variety assigned accurately to its proper type. |
