| Abstract/Contents: | A series of experiments was conducted at Texas A & M College to ascertain the degree of damage rendered by wear from a golf shoe with ripple soles upon a putting surface. Concludes that the ripple soles effected far less damage than normal spike soles and rubber cleated soles. Two methods were used to obtain this conclusion: a visual evaluation of the quality of the turf with an untrodden turf surface used as the check, and the double quadrat (DQ) method. Both tests supported each other. Additionally, it was discovered that the ripple soles did the least damage to the ball roll. |
