Abstract/Contents:When selecting a turfgrass for planting on a golf green, exact knowledge of the grass and its environmental and maintenance requirements is vital. Grasses have specific soil requirements as well. Often there are large fluctuations in a grasses' performance within a given species. Differing methods of establishing turfgrasses each bring with them their possible advantages and dangers to the grass. Penncross is mentioned as one of the most successful attempts to breed out undesirable qualities within a species, and it is predicted to become widely used. Initial maintenance of a recently established grass is also crucial.
