| Abstract/Contents: | Poa annua proves to be a continued weed problem on golf courses. Several of its particular features are described, such as its shallow roots and high susceptibility to diseases, but also its incredible germinating capabilities and ability to establish itself quickly. A twelve step program is drawn up for poa annua control that is largely maintenance based, with the use of herbicides recommended only in a limited capacity. Such steps include good drainage, topdressing, frequent moving of the flagstick to reduce wear, the adoption of an irrigation program favorable to bentgrasses, thatch control, disease control, fertilization, applications of lead arsenate, low phosphorous levels, the use of wetting agents and employing only vigorous bentgrasses. |
