Abstract/Contents: | "The Clean Washington Center in Seattle and the City of Everett, Washington, have undertaken a project to assess methods for restoring damaged wetland areas. The project consists of full-scale restoration with experimental plots to analyze the effectiveness of compost in replicating natural wetland soil parameters. Beyond the benefits of to the specific site, the goal is to generate guidelines for this compost use elsewhere. Fourteen plots were established in the spring of 1995 to examine two types of compost (biosolids/yard trimmings and yard trimmings only). Two replications of three loading rates were used, with two control plots (no compost). Plots and surrounding natural wetland soils are being sampled, analyzed, and compared for target parameters over the course of a year. This article provides background on the project; a complete report will appear in a later issue when the final data is available." |
