Abstract/Contents:Based on experience gained from the flooding of the Schloß Weitenburg golf club in May of 1994, steps that can be taken to prepare a course for flooding from the very planning stages are given, as well as steps that can be taken as a flooding becomes immanent. Recommended steps to take to insure maximum turf recovery within the shortest possible space of time are also given. Generally, placing greens and tees as high above the surface as possible is a good preparatory step, as is the abstention from using sand bunkers. Removing any objects from the course that could catch and collect debris that a flood water will bring with it is a wise course course of action; the fewer obstacles, the more the water will flow past and render less damage. Sanding the course with fine sand after a flooding can help retain some pore space and restore normal air circulation in the soil.
