Abstract/Contents:Discusses the economic impact the turfgrass industry has had on Texas. The turfgrass industry has contributed over $6 billion to the Texas economy. The sector that contributes the most to the turf economy is single-family households, followed by counties, cities, cemeteries, airports, golf courses, and commercial businesses. "Turfgrass area - which includes any grass that is mowed and maintained - totals about 3.5 million acres, about 2 percent of the land within the boundaries of the state. That doesn't include the 1.9 million acres maintained along Texas' highways and the 22,000 acres of sod grown by Texas producers...Of that total, single-family households manage the most - 58% percent - of the turfgrass in the state..."
