Abstract/Contents:Discusses the contributions of the Shinnecock tribe to the USGA in planning the US Open at Shinnecock Hills. The land used for the golf course was primarily a part of the Shinnecock reservation and the tribe provided much of the labor force and the land used to build the course. The Shinnecocks continue to be an integral part of the course. Members of the tribe can be found serving as both the course superintendent and as members of the maintenance crew. The Shinnecocks also benefit from the course in revenue, which they apply to help run the reservation. Both the Shinnecocks and the USGA have benefited from Shinnecock Hills.
